Hello!

My name is Claudiu Olteanu and I am in my second
year at the Computer Science Faculty of the Politehnica Bucharest from Romania.

I looked over the ideas you proposed and I think
the most interesting for me are Variable Speed Playback, Segment Topic
Detection and Web-based video editor.
I have never participated in an open source
project and I believe I face some problems choosing a project. I would
like it if possible to get more details about themin order to figure out
which suits me better.
I had some discussions about Variable Speed Playback with Chris and he advised
me
to take a look over the GStreamer documentation  which I did. I tried to get
used to this
library but is it enough? Should I continue to focus on understanding it, or
should I take some other things into account. I noticed that HTML is among the
necessary knowledge. Could you please tell me for what exactly you will need to
use a markup language for this project because to be honest I do not realize
how it will help.
I have good knowledge of Java and C languages.I
also know a bit of HTML, CSS, Haskell, Octave, algorithmics and currently I am
following
a course in HTML5, CSS3, jQuery,ASP.NET and MVC3 but I am barely beginning.
Would it be better to choose a project that is
based more on language that I am accustomed to as Topic Segment Detection?Java
is the language that I feel most comfortable with at the moment, but I am
willing to lean new ones.Concerning the last project, I would be very
interested to work on a web-based
video editor. I think I have some ideas regarding what a video editor
should contain, but I noticed the project requires a lot of knowledge
that currently I do not have.

Any feedback is more then welcome.
