Dear All

The board met April 4th to discuss a number of issues.

First and foremost, the board is looking into the proposed NA community meeting
this summer with the initial poll regarding a meeting to coincide with the
Jasig-Sakai conference June 10-15 in Atlanta
(https://ethz.doodle.com/krz3bv64t4ypuy3k) indicating a fair bit of interest
from key institutions. Based on comments from potential participants, we are
looking at venues for this meeting at the moment, ideally to reduce travel cost
and maximize participation at the same time. The board will update the
community mid-April.

The board also was able to get in touch with hosts of the said Jasig-Sakai
conference to see how Matterhorn can participate; various options
(pre-conference workshop, recording service) are being discussed and/or
prepared, and there are also proposals for a number of presentations at the
actual conference. Expect to meet us in Atlanta!

Admission of the Matterhorn project to the Google Summer Of Code was a huge
success in that a number of developers came forward with a variety of
proposals. These will be reviewed by the mentors involved (kudos to Chris,
Ruediger, Greg, and Tobias) and put forward for further consideration; we hope
to see a number of exciting projects over the summer (cf.
http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/Google+Summer+of+Code+Ideas+Page).

Finally, the board is calling attention to a TERENA recording contest this
summer (http://www.terena.org/activities/media/rc/rc.html), will look into
legal implications of FFmpeg using patent-encumbered codecs and discussed
communication strategies.

The next board meeting will be May 2nd. Feel free to raise issues with us.

The Opencast Board
