I checked out that we can improve the speed for the preview image
generation with the latest ffmpeg release 0.10.x. The trick with setting
the time parameter (-ss) befor the input (-i) that increased the speed
on some codecs works now much more reliable and with the MPEG2 codec too.
In general ffmpeg 0.10.2 works with our 1.3 production version just fine
and without any changes to the encoding parameters. Upgrading the
3rd-party installer to this version was not a real problem for Linux and
took only a few minutes, but I guess that MacOS and Mac-Ports may be a
little more complicated here?
So what do others think about upgrading ffmpeg (x264 and vpx) to the
latest release for 1.4?
