Galicaster (http://www.galicaster.org) by Teltek Video Research provides visual
feedback of the streams being recorded, which include clear indicators of the
state of the recording, the sound volume and the next scheduled recordings. A
pop up window will show up on the screen if the volume recorded is below a
certain pre-configured threshold.
The interface allows the instructor to start/pause/stop a recording (regardless
it was started manually or automatically), but the administrators can restrict
some of those actions as needed (for instance, disallowing the instructors to
start a recording, or perhaps to stop it, etc. Any possible combinations are
admitted).

> In case of using the automated recording we use a start time -5 min of the
> official starting time. Same for the end time: We schedule official time +10
> min. So we are sure that all is recorded even if the teacher will not start
> or end in time.
> In some classrooms we are using boundary microphones in addition to the
> "normal" lecturer mic to hear comments from students. So this mics will
> continuous be switched on.
> Result is that teacher and students come in the room and they are not aware
> that all is recorded (video and audio) what they say and do. So we need a "on
> air" lamp.
> If the room is scheduled but used for other things, we need a "emergency off"
> buzzer to stop the recording.
