"Services" in OS X are initiated by the Launch Daemon, launchd, configured in
the case of matterhorn by
/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.opencastproject.matterhorn.plist
and manually invoked by
launchctl load
/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.opencastproject.matterhorn.plist

Thanks for those. I figured out the DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH, but the
'-Dgosh.args=--noi' was invaluable.
I have one more to add... 3a reads
"Download the latest version of the Apache Felix Framework Distribution"
This should read:
"Download the latest 3.x.x version of the Apache Felix Framework Distribution"
