Hello All While the June unconference at Harvard made us skip the monthly digest, we would like to update you on outcomes and supplements to the July meeting of the board:
With almost 90 people registered, the meeting at Harvard university was a huge success. We had several sessions outlining new features, discussions amongst committers and adopters and the vendor showcase saw a number of new hardware solutions for capturing in the classroom. The board would like to thank participants as well as our hosts at Harvard. Also, Opencast board members and committers were in attendance at the Jasig-Sakai conference in Atlanta in June, where together they lead both an introductory workshop to Matterhorn, and a related talk on rich media use in academia. Matterhorn was also utilized to record many of the sessions at Jasig-Sakai, details to follow. Bug bash: The board will help to organize a bug bash [1] sooner rather than later. It was discussed at Harvard that this could help us not only in QA'ing the 1.4 release, but also help contributors and adopters get their feet wet with Matterhorn. More news to come later soon. Community Meetings: The board sees some room for improvements based on participants' feedback. Different slots for different target groups (adopters, developers, decision makers) are an option, with others asking for dates and more tracks to be determined in advance (as opposed to the ad-hoc unconference style). The board will see to these inputs being considered for the next meetings. These are planned, though not decided for November 2012 (Ljubljana, Slovenia), early 2013 in the US (West Coast) and late June in Osnabruck, Germany. Comments are welcome. Website/documentation/communication: Work continues in different areas of improving the Matterhorn outreach activities. There is going to be a webinar over the summer with details to be announced on list. Elections for the Opencast board are due in the fall. Expect to hear more in separate mails. The next board meeting will be August 1st. Feel free to raise issues with us.
