Judy Stern commented on MH-5393:
--------------------------------
Email from our administrator to an instructor:
"We believe that course lecture webcasts are a fantastic study resource, but
they are not intended as a substitute for attending class. Other lecturers who
have had concerns about decreased attendance due to podcasting their lectures
have been comforted by our publishing delay feature. We can delay the
publishing of each lecture by a number of days you specify. This allows
students to review podcasts from previous lectures leading up to a Midterm (for
example), but prevents them from skipping class and catching up before the next
lecture. A publishing delay is especially effective when used in conjunction
with pop-quizzes. I am not sure if this mode will fit the pedagogical model for
your course, but am happy to discuss further with you."
> As an administrator, I need to set a delay on the publishing of a recording
> so that the instructor is comfortable with webcasting his class

> This is a gap between Matterhorn 1.0 and Berkeley's current system.
> An exchange today between our admin and a faculty member made it clear just
> how important this functionality is when the admin is in a customer service
> role, and how important it is that it be easy to accomplish:
> >Professor X,
> >No problem. Today's lecture seems to have recorded as it should from 3106.
> >I have reduced the delay from 7 days down to 3 days. It is easy to do, so if

> >hear that students are attending class. We try to emphasis that the on-line
> >material should be used only as a supplement to the in-class experience
> >and not as a substitute.
