I doug further into this issue and it turns out that the problem was caused by
the streaming distribution service, which would distribute items to the service
that weren't tracks. As a result, copies of preview images would gain the
"rtmp://" protocol, and when these images then were to be copied, they could
not be downloaded.
I submitted a fix for the problem as part of MH-9067, which is focused on
fixing the streaming service as well as the image preview generation. In
theory, Matterhorn services should deal with local media package elements only,
and a the rtmp:// tracks are mere representations of tracks that have been
distributed and are living elsewhere. The author of a workflow has to make sure
(through proper tagging) that these mediapckage elements are left in peace.
Not the perfect solution, but somewhat reasonable (at least for me :-)
