Dear All On October 11th, the Opencast board had a transitional meeting after the 2012 board elections with outgoing and newly elected members present. Olaf A. Schulte (ETH Zurich) was elected chair of the board by the new board members, Andy Wasklewicz (Entwine) the board's co-chair. Both will serve a one-year term. The board expressed gratitude to outgoing board members Mara Hancock and Chris Brooks and welcomed the new board members Ben Hubbard and David Horwitz; the current board members can be found at http://opencast.org/leadership. The new board will discuss and identify goals for 2013 over the next couple of weeks and - in light of these - decide upon the appointed members to become (or remain) part of the Opencast board. Finally, Rüdiger Rolf and Vicente Goyanes volunteered to have their board seats up for election in the fall of 2013.
The board will also continue to pursue the concept of a collaborative effort to move forward the release of Matterhorn 1.4: After the successful bug bash in August (which actually was a "test fest"), there will be a "real" bug bash in the fall to tackle those issues identified that haven't been resolved yet. The board will help committers organize this event with the ideal outcome being not only a reduction of release-blocking bugs, but also an inclusion of new developers. Also, the board will use this event to intensify communication with institutional leads around developers' availability for community-related tasks. Finally, in regard to upcoming events: the board decided upon a number of issues around the next unconference as prepared by Michelle Ziegmann; details have been published last Friday. There will also be Opencast Matterhorn presentations at the 2013 Educause in Anaheim, the Workshop on Co-creation of emerging trends in Academia in Ljubljana, the Media & Learning Conference in Brussels, and at UNINETT in Norway - expect to hear more soon.
