Thanks for the suggestions and help.

Okay, I reviewed my configuration and also used "diagnose" extensively. What I find is that the "short" jobs don't get any boost, nor the "default" ones any penalty.

#> diagnose -p

[...]
273982 1140 100.0(1139.) <- default, queued long time
273983 95 100.0( 95.4) <- short, queued some time
273986 0 100.0( 0.0) <- just submitted short

As you can see, short doesn't get any boost like it should.

#> diagnose -Q

DEFAULT 0 0 0 0 0.00 [NONE] [NONE] [NONE] [ALL] 0 0 0 0 0.00 [NONE] [NONE] [NONE] high 100 0 0 0 0.00 PREEMPTOR [NONE] [NONE]
  Classes: short
low -1000 0 0 0 0.00 PREEMPTEE [NONE] [NONE]
  Classes: default

Both queues are correctly allocated to the "low" and "high" QOS definitions.

maui.cfg:

BACKFILLPOLICY FIRSTFIT
RESERVATIONPOLICY CURRENTHIGHEST
NODEALLOCATIONPOLICY MINRESOURCE
QOSCFG[high] PRIORITY=100 QFLAGS=PREEMPTOR
QOSCFG[low] PRIORITY=-1000 QFLAGS=PREEMPTEE
CLASSCFG[default] FLAGS=PREEMPTEE QDEF=low
CLASSCFG[short] FLAGS=PREEMPTOR QDEF=high MAXNODE=8,12

Could the problem be that my batch queue is named "default" ?

Cheers,
Ronny
