THE WEATHER CHANNEL REINVENTS
FORECASTING USING HPC BY MOAB AND HP
Whether you're off to the ballpark, a picnic or a
round of golf, accurate weather forecasting is
crucial to your preparation. The Weather Channel
is working to improve weather predictions in
places just like these using a high-powered
supercomputer to run their innovative weather
prediction algorithm.
The Weather Channel employs Moab's event
policy engine - a tool used to automate administrative
tasks - to monitor and command the system to run
calculations on their HP ProLiant DL385 cluster three
times per hour, 365 days per year.
Moab has been rock solid since the beginning,
Schmitt said. It kicks off beautifully like clockwork
needing no human intervention, which is unlike so
many other schedulers. There weren't very many
environments out there that allowed us to do this
level of automation where we set it up and it drives
itself.

CLUSTER RESOURCES' MOAB - MOST
SELECTED ON TOP500 SUPERCOMPUTERS
With the new Top500 supercomputers list released
Nov. 14, Cluster Resources, Inc. announced today
Moab has been selected to run on 50 percent of the
top ten systems and now more than 48 percent of
the top 100 systems total CPU count. Leading
sites that have selected Moab include the numbers
1,2,4,6 and 10 systems.
Cluster Resources has experienced consistent
year-over-year growth in Top500 adoption over
the previous five years.
"We are pleased to see that a growing number of
the top supercomputing organizations in the world
are using Moab as their resource and workload
management solution," said Dave Jackson, CTO
of Cluster Resources. "Moab's high scalability,
along with its ease of management and ability for
automation, enables these sites to squeeze more
power out of their hardware."

IBM SUCCESS STORY HIGHLIGHTS WORK
WITH CLUSTER RESOURCES
IBM this month released a success story about
their work with Cluster Resources. The story details
the projects IBM and Cluster Resources have jointly
worked on, as well as Cluster Resources
compatibility status on IBM hardware.
The document states [Cluster Resources] solutions
have been tested and run on all standard IBM hardware
platforms, including Linux on POWER (IBM System i5,
System p5, and BladeCenter) and the IBM Systems x
and z servers. Initial testing of Moab has been performed
on IBM Blue Gene. A perfect combination for Cluster
Resources' solutions, Linux on IBM hardware gives them
fast, stable, and reliable performance on powerful,
cost-effective, fully supported servers.

CLUSTER RESOURCES AT SUPERCOMPUTING
2006
Cluster Resources wishes to thank all who visited
our booth at SC06. We were glad to meet members
of the Moab, Maui and TORQUE communities face to
face. We also held a successful TORQUE BoF. Please
join us next year at SC07 in Reno, NV at booth #1907.

DID YOU KNOW: STANDARDIZE PARAMETERS
FOR EVERY JOB SUBMISSION
A feature Cluster Resources recently added to Moab
allows organizations to standardize parameters
added to each job submission. This feature lets
administrators add parameters across the entire cluster
or to partitions of the cluster.
In order to standardize parameters, an administrator
can specify the parameter in the file msubrc. For more
information, see Moab's documentation at
www.clusterresources.com/msub
