Cluster Resources will join Fusion and Microsoft in Booth 1606 at SEG’08 at the 
Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, November 9-14, 2008.

Cluster Resources will make a joint presentation with PCPC Direct in HP's booth 
(No. 729) titled “Accelerate: Design, Build, Manage” on Monday, November 10, 
from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and on Wednesday, November 12, from 11:45 a.m. to 
12:30 p.m.

Cluster Resources will be part of the Job and Resource Scheduling Tutorial(D2) 
at HP Cast on November 14 at the Radisson Hotel in Austin, Texas.  For more

Presentations:

Dave Jackson, founder and CTO of Cluster Resources, will be part of the HP BoF 
titled “Next Generation Workload Management for Cloud Computing and Scale-Out 
Environments” on Tuesday, November 18, 12:15-1:15 p.m. in Room 15 of the Austin 
Convention Center.

Michael Jackson, president and CEO of Cluster Resources, will make an exhibitor 
forum presentation titled “Moab-Managed Clusters: Intelligently Control System 
Behavior, Speed Workload Processing, and Reduce Power Usage” on Thursday, 
November 20, 2:30-3:30 p.m. in Room 12A/12B of the Austin Convention Center.

2. Call for Beta Testers for Moab 5.3

Cluster Resources is seeking beta testers for Moab 5.3.  This version includes 
an integrated database for Moab statistics. If you are interested in beta 
testing the next version of Moab, it is now available for download at

3. TORQUE Admin Manual Now Available for PDF Download

A PDF version of the TORQUE Admin Manual is now available for download online 
at:

The PDF manual is available to all registered users; non-registered users will 
continue to have access to the online version of the TORQUE Admin Manual as 
usual. Registration is free. To register, go to

registered, you will have access to this document and do not need to reregister.

Registered users will also have access to special online TORQUE training 
sessions, videos, and other resources to be made available in the coming months.

4. Did You Know: Preemption

While it may be critical that some jobs submitted obtain resources immediately, 
other jobs are less time sensitive but consume large amounts of compute 
resources. Moab has the ability to run low-priority, preemptable jobs whenever 
something more pressing is not running. When a job is preempted, it can either 
be canceled, re-queued, suspended, or check pointed.

Preemption can be enabled in three ways: by manual intervention, through 
QoS-based configuration, or through the use of the preemption-based backfill 
algorithm.

5. Online Training Sessions

Cluster Resources provides live interactive demonstrations to show how easy it 
is to evaluate Moab. These demonstrations go into detail about the tools that 
make the evaluation simple and effective. 

Part 1 of the training covers the use of Moab in a cluster environment, as well 
as the following areas: Moab architecture, installation, diagnostics and 
troubleshooting, admin tools, end user tools, and testing modes.

Part 2 of the training details Moab in a grid environment, including 
information on grid autonomy, credential remapping, and other grid-specific 
capabilities.
