Liberté provisoire pour Moustapha Sow, en
attendant le verdict de son procès en appel

dakarois L'Office a été libéré le 14 juillet 2006, en
attendant le verdict de son jugement en appel. L'audience de remise
en liberté provisoire, prévue le 7 juillet, avait été
repoussée d'une semaine par le président de la chambre
correctionnelle de la cour d'appel de Dakar, Boubacar
Diallo.
Moustapha Sow a passé deux
semaines en prison, suite à sa condamnation pour "diffamation"
dans l'affaire l'opposant au PDG d'une entreprise de BTP, Bara
Tall. Le journaliste avait été condamné en mai dernier par un
tribunal de Dakar à une peine de six mois de prison, qui n'avait
pris application qu'à partir du 29 juin. Ses avocats avaient
déposé une demande de mainlevée devant la cour d'appel de
Dakar.

L'Office managing editor freed
conditionally pending appeal
Moustapha Sow, the managing editor
of the Dakar-based daily L'Office, was freed conditionally on
14 July pending the outcome of his appeal against his conviction on a
charge of libelling Bara Tall, the CEO of a construction company. The
release hearing should have been held on 7 July but was postponed a
week by Dakar appeal court judge Boubacar Diallo.
After being sentenced by a Dakar court to six months in prison in the Tall case in May, Sow began serving his sentence on 29 June and had spent two weeks in prison when the release request filed by his lawyers was finally held by the Dakar appeal court.
