Stop the Hijab Ban in Tunisia
Rally for Justice in Tunisia, Wednesday,12:00 noon,Tunisian Embassy
WASHINGTON, DC - Oct. 26, 2006 (MASNET) MAS Freedom Foundation is sponsoring a press conference and rally on Wednesday, November 1st at 12:00 noon in front of the Embassy of Tunisia, 1515 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. The press conference and rally will focus on the banning of the hijab (Islamic headscarf) and human rights violations in Tunisia.
MAS Freedom is requesting local mosques to announce the rally at this Friday's Jummah prayer and to encourage attendance. Transportation to and from the event will be provided at the Dar Al-Hijrah Mosque, 3159 Row Street, Falls Church VA, 22044. Vans leave promptly at 10:45 am and will return at 1:00 pm.
Imams are encouraged to point out the following:
· The mandate by Allah (SWT) to stand for justice regardless of the perpetrator.
· The horrible harassment and humiliation of Tunisian women who are forced to remove their hijab on the streets.
· The restriction of the rights of Tunisian women who wear hijab to healthcare, employment, education, and travel documents
· The banning of the hijab violates the Tunisian constitution, which provides for free exercise of religion.
· In addition to the hijab ban, Tunisia has a horrible human rights record.
