NetBSD is less finicky about hardware (it even does okay on LC040s, though
this is also courting disaster), has generally less memory overhead, and
requires generally less HD space. You could boot NetBSD, though it is not
recommended, with as little as 4MB RAM/80MB HD. Of course, this just gets
you the kernel and maybe a shell or two.

Also, as Linux distributions bloat and swell, NetBSD remains svelte and
lean (mostly since there isn't nine billion unique dists competing for
your dollars -- all of the NetBSD install CDs are essentially identical to
the NetBSD Foundation reference discs). No Red Hat vs. Slackware vs. Debian
wars here.

As NetBSD is a real BSD, it uses BSD Unix conventions which are sometimes
a bit different from other systems, but I own a Solbourne (wink to Mike) and
an AIX Apple Network Server, so I'm well-used to that kind of thing.

Daemon News Mall sells 1.5 and you can purchase from them. 1.4.2 has a few
security holes in it, but you can easily upgrade to 1.4.3 without much
trouble and I will be doing so shortly.
