The YDL installation guide will give you the best partitioning scheme for Linux, OS9, OSX. Yaboot ought to work on your G3. I have my G4 setup to boot into OSX by default and the option to boot os9 and linux by pressing 'm' and 'l' (or 'c' for cd). The best is to start with a clean drive and format with OSX boot CD then install OSX then linux then OS9. > 2.
