Many already know this, but runlevel 5 should start X automatically 
and provide a graphical login which some prefer (I don't). You can 
set the default run level in '/etc/inittab'

To change from runlevel 3 to 5 issue command 'init 5' as root. Once 
at runlevel 5, change back to 3 by 'init 3'. Reboot is 'init 6', 
shutdown is 'init 0', single user is 'init 1'.
