Actually, I think it's seeing the server. It's an important
distinction.

You also need to set up the printer in the papd.conf
file[1], if you haven't done this already, to actually
make the printer available to AppleShare clients like
your Mac. The papd.conf file tells netatalk what printer
queue to use for shared printers. The file is in the
same directory as the Volumes file (/usr/etc/atalk/ on
my machine, or it could be /etc/atalk depending on how
the Mandrake folks set things up).
If your Macs are running MacOS 8.5 (8.6?) or later,
you can also access remote printers through LPR[2].
Use the Desktop Printer Utility on the Mac to set up
the printer, and you have to add the IP address of
the Mac to one of the files in /etc (hosts.allow? see
the lpd manpage, it will tell you). I'm using LPR at
work & set it up at home too.

[1] I'm at work, the Linux box is at home, so I might
have something wrong; you know the tune. :-)
I think there's a manpage for papd.conf, or you
can check the netatalk manpage too.
[2] I assume CUPS can provide access to remote systems
using LPR, it would be difficult to use in a mixed
environment otherwise. The CUPS documentation should
tell you how to make your printers available to
other computers.
