As yet, 2.2 is the best to use for Desktop Macs. 2.4 has some fixes for Powerbooks, but isn't stable yet for Desktops. Someone recently made a m68k compile of 2.4.20, but I haven't had a chance to try it on any of my boxes so I can't tell you what to do. As for the hardware clock.... there was some fix for that but its escaping me at the moment. Best bet is to drop by the Debian-68k list available from the Deb site. Although someone here might have the answer too.
