The modules must be extracted in the linux partition, not in the Mac OS
partition. After your initial install of Debian, only the kernel file
itself and the Penguin booter are used from the Mac partition. You can
have several kernels, and each has its own set of modules over in the
linux partition.

There is no automatic "install" for a replacement kernel -- you must boot
a previous kernel, run the tar command as root in the / directory to
unpack the module archive, then go back to Mac OS and change your Penguin
setting to boot the new kernel file. There's a linux mount command you
can use to access files on your Mac OS partition (such as the modules tar
file).

I seem to recall an issue with clocks in the 950. I use a Quadra 700 so I
ignored the 950 issues. The onboard ethernet of the 700 did not work
reliably until the 2.2.23 kernel which was made available just this
January (I think the 700 and 950 have the same "sonic" onboard ethernet).
