The last time I read the XPF docs, it seems the support for the 3400 was iffy. Also, since it does not have a G3 processor, you won't be able to use 10.2.x, only 10.0.x or 10.1.x. The first versions of XPF required you to copy the install CD to a hard drive, then install the .kext files (kernel extensions) to the "new" install hard drive, and add a installer to the Apple install sequence that installs the XPF .kext files on the target volume. You might have to do something like that if your CD drive is not supported well. Currently, XPF boots off the CD but loads some .kext files from the target drive with BootX voodoo. If everything is on the install volume, there are fewerthings to go wrong. >OS X _is_ on the target partition already, from an earlier attempt. >I just can't boot to it. There is a menu choice in XPF that copies the .kext files to the target volume, you might try that. I believe it is Advanced=>ReInstallExtensions. >I was hoping XPF would help get around my Open Firmware problems. XPF can set your OF so that it grabs your input device (keyboard) and output device (your video card). >Do I need to have OS 9 installed on the target partition? No. >I don't see how putting a copy of BootX on a volume I can't boot from will >be any help whatsoever. It won't if the .kext files aren't there, or if there is some other problem. You also might try Apple's System Disk utility, I found that works to set the boot volume more reliably on Old World Macs. System Disk was distributed with early versions of Darwin (and Rhapsody). -- Charles Dostale [EMAIL PROTECTED] System Administrator, Silver Oaks Communications http://www.silveroaks.com 824 17th Street, Moline IL USA 61265 309-797-9898 -- MaX-list is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... / Buy books, CDs, videos, and more from Amazon.com \ / <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/lowendmac> \ Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> MaX-list info: <http://lowendmac.com/linux/max.shtml> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/max-list%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
