but still, that would not explain that error. it should say something else, like "corrupt partition table", not what it says...

It took me a while to figure out it was the partition table was causing my problem. I don't remember the exact error messages I saw, it was several years ago I ran into the problem. If I remember correctly, I had to partition/format with DriveSetup first to remove all traces of the fdisk created partitions, and then use pdisk.


i no longer have any kind of macos on the hdd

Beige macs need a bootable Mac OS to bootstrap Linux, in my experience. New World Macs use yaboot or similar.

I was never able to get miboot or quik to work satisfactorily on my Linux-on-Mac installs.
You or others may have other experiences.


I have no specific experience installing Debian on PPC, only MkLinux, LinuxPPC, YellowDog, Mandrake, SuSE, and NetBSD
