Wow! You're brave.
For running XP or trying alpha software? ;)

And is it as slow as win xp under macos ??
Slower. The emulation works well but not fast. Slower than Basilisk running OS8.1
I've heard that it is a few orders of magnitude slower than real hardware - as in it takes several hours to boot on a > 3 GHz Intel x86.
Hmmm, hope not, its taking some time to install.
Under windows there is no access to the cd drive so they are read from .iso files, I made a mess of the first install and have only started the second, let you know once its finished if you like.
VirtualPC, on the other hand, is quite usable even on my 333 MHz iMac (I now have a 600 MHz upgrade, so it's much quicker).
Softwindows is faster. I like vpc3 over version 4 or 5 it felt the fastest of the three for mine. I'm still running biege macs so nothing beats a pci dos card. Support for these cards under OSX or Nix would be nice.
MDK 7 runs reasonably under vpc. ;)
When you have a multitasking OS, the speed of the emulation isn't so bad, since you can always do other things while you're waiting for the virtual machine to do something. I'm sure this is the only way that people running PearPC can bear it.
Would you also say that it makes you wonder how folks put up with the Classic OS for so long? It was a strange trip from Amiga to Mac then PC and finally Nix which feels much better.
I use another computer to avoild the problem. :)
Even an old PC emulator on a 7.5 MHz 68008 Sinclair QL was only about 1/10th the speed of a real PC (as opposed to 1/100 - 1/1000th). When you absolutely need it, it's there (and the QL did have real multitasking).
68008?
A 68040 was needed before I got joy out of pc emulation, the QL was doing very well. Vpc1 or RealPC does a good job on a quadra. Haven't been able to do a decent Amiga emulation on any platform.
Rather off topic for this list, I'll post some times from the first successful OSX install if it happens, the rest for the mac n dos list.
Cheers
