Does the same go for earlier OS'? I might try a dual boot with 8.5.1 or 9.1 on a tray-loading iMac. I would like the Mac OS to be default, so when my elderly mother uses the computer for her e-mail she is not confused by boot options. If I could get the bootloader to appear by holding down the option key, otherwise defaulting to Mac, that would be ideal. To set this up, I would partition the drive, install YDL, *then* re-install the Mac OS, correct? Or does it matter which I install first?

It would be OK either way - much as you could set YDL as the default partition by running yaboot, you can also make an existing OSX or OS9 partition the default by booting Mac OS and selecting itself as the startup disk. My first guess is that OS8/OS9 would make themselves the default boot partition anyway.
