I use both Linux and FreeBSD for servers, so I am going to not consider this
a troll :) Also note I said "gamble + speculate" in the original message.

FreeBSD is proven as a hosting platform. It isn't like servers need the
latest sound board drivers and other hardware support (video drivers) that
Linux tends to have the advantage on.

I guess it you are focused on "Free" because Redhat & Suse (Novell) are
charging - some are going to consider FreeBSD!

In our working with Linux + FreeBSD, we find that FreeBSD has suffered from
one major technical problem: Threading libraries. However, 5.1 is actively
working on this and 5.2 is looking very promising (a few months away?).

MySQL has OpenBSD & FreeBSD support... Natural to ask if MaxDB has something
in the works.

Just trying to describe a less common but not unheard of viewpoint.

why not consider Debian instead of FreeBSD? It's a solid distro that is
community supported much like FreeBSD... hmmm hmmm?
