Hello Igor,

currently you should use log backups for that purpose. You can force a very small log
backup size to minimize data loss in case of a complete production server loss.

In future versions of MaxDB a Hot Standby Solution will be implemented (actually it is
already in the test), where standby databases use the log volume of the production
database to stay up to date. This will require special hardware for the log volume and
will therefore have a higher price tag as the current standby solution, which will be
still available nonetheless.

Best regards,

Hello, I am looking to have as close as I can a stand by database that will be able to
take over in case production server crashes and is completely gone.

Thank you.

Hello Igor,

what are you looking for in your disaster recovery?

When restoring a standby database with data from the original database, you can also
use log backups instead of incremental backups, to keep the standby database as up to
date as possible.

Hello, we have an instance of SAP DB on Windows 2000 that is about 10 GB in size and
growing.

Has anybody have a Disaster Recovery set up?

Are there any solutions available other then copying full 10 GB backup to DR site,
restoring it, and applying incremental backups ?

Thank you.
