Hi Mark, please update your jdbc driver with the newest one available at: http://www.mysql.com/get/Downloads/MaxDB/jdbc/sapdbc-7_5_0_5.jar/from/pick or if you prefer the LGPL version: ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapdb/bin/java/sapdbc.jar
A lot of bugs has been fixed in the meantime and as far as I remember also this one that you are running into.
