Hello,

the Database (SAP DB / MaxDB 7.3.0 B43) was backuped using a three-pipe
medium in about two hours (the database was cold, the backup was consistent,
every pipe transferred about 15 GB, Backup-Software is "Netvault" in the
Version 6, the Backup Robby uses a "jukebox" with DLTs 35/70).

When recovering the SAP DB after the hardware changes of the database server
with this backup the data restore finished after 14 hours! From begin to
the end of the data restore the three pipes were monitored with "x_cons
<SID> sh aio 300". The pipes PIPE_1 and PIPE_3 transferred in the average
10500 counters in 5 minutes (about 0,7 GB in 5 minutes on one pipe) and
this two pipes finished successfully after about 2 hours.

The pipe PIPE_2 showed another behaviour: the transfer began with 750 counters
in the average per five minutes and after 70 min there is an intervall of
about 15 minutes where the transfer rate of PIPE_2 is similar high as the
transfer rates of the PIPE_1 and PIPE_3. Then the rate falls back to the
level of about 750 counters in the average in five minutes and after 70
to 90 minutes the rate is again near 10000 counters per five minutes for
about 15 minutes. And so on till to the end of the data restore and after
14 hours this pipe also completed successfully.

In the past, other data restores of other SAP DB databases with a three-pipe
medium (backup-softwares "Netvault") showed also, that two of the three
pipes completed in a "normal" data-restore time and one of the three pipes
restored much longer. The backup of a SAP DB database with a three-pipe
medium didn't show this behaviour till now.

Do I have to change parameters of the database to achieve that the three
pipes restore in the same time? Or do you think that the problem ist the
network or perhaps the backup-software?

Thank You for your answers.

Wolfhard Langer
