After carefully going thru the dbm.utl, I found out that something issued
SET LOG WRITER OFF, because I know I didn't, may be you can give some idea
whether this command could  be issued automaticaly by the system, or a SAP
tool..

At the end I issued SET LOG WRITER ON and SET LOG AUTO OVERWRITE OFF, took a
complete backup and I could be able to autosave_on...

The MAXDB documentation only shows you how to do this using DBM GUI but I
couldn't find where this is explained in the dbmcli commands...
