Hello, First of all thanks for the information. One of our production Databases could be upgraded easily by the following procedure. 1. installation of "sapdb-server-win-32Bit-i386-7_3_0_24" on a test system 2. recovere the Instance from a migration 3. upgrade the sap kernel to "sapdb-all-win-32bit-i386-7_3_0_48" 4. switch to online mode 5. upload the system tables 6. backup the instance 7. switch to offline mode 8. stop the x-server 9. start the sdpupd.exe from "maxdb-all-win-32bit-i386-7_5_0_15"
Everything went fine. But with the second DB we had some problems. First we wanted to upgrade the sap kernel directly on the server to version 7.3.0.48 but the installation aborted with server service could not be installed. (the sap service cannot be started anymore and even an uninstall is not possible) So we wiped the test system an began with step 1. Up to step 9 everything was running fine than this error occured: .....extracting: -rw-r--r-- 740352 2004-06-18 14:12:25 symbols/tracesort.pdb checking unpacked archive... ok starting installation phase of package Loader 7.5.00.15 32 bit -------------------------------------------------------------- start real extraction of "C:/maxdb-all-win-32bit-i386-7_5_0_15/SDBLD.TGZ" extracting: drwxr-xr-x 0 2004-06-18 19:08:36 bin/ extracting: -rwxr-xr-x 1773568 2004-06-18 14:10:39 bin/loadercli.exe extracting: drwxr-xr-x 0 2004-06-18 19:08:37 pgm/ extracting: -rwxr-xr-x 1720320 2004-06-18 14:10:07 pgm/lserver.exe checking unpacked archive... ok installation of MaxDB Server finished successfully We, Aug 18, 2004 at 18:08:53 finding instance type... starting release already known migration strategy already known running finalize check... looking for domain user... current database state is OFFLINE checking parameters... switch database state to ADMIN migrating database... switch database state to OFFLINE current database state is OFFLINE checking parameters... switch database state to ADMIN switch database state to ONLINE cannot finish instance update for "SF" current database state is OFFLINE checking parameters... switch database state to ADMIN switch database state to ONLINE cannot switch database mode, error during dbm command: db_online ERR -24895,ERR_SHUTDOWN: shutdown of database occured -71,connection broken looking for error messages in knldiag ... 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0xFDC ERR 53250 B*TREE BAD INDEX 187 (ROOT) 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0xFDC ERR 53250 B*TREE BAD INDEX 126 (ROOT) 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0xFDC 56 Log Savepoint requested by T4 reas on 'CreateIndex' (started). 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0x6E0 4 Pager SVP(1) Start Write Data 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0x6E0 5 Pager SVP(1) Stop Data IO, Pages: 6 IO: 5 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0x6E0 6 Pager SVP(2) Wait for last split, Ta skId: 81 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0x6E0 7 Pager SVP(2) Stop Wait for last spli t, Pages: 0 IO: 0 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0x6E0 53070 SAVPOINT B20PREPARE_SVP: 10354 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0x6E0 8 Pager SVP(3) Start Write Data 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0x6E0 9 Pager SVP(3) Stop Data IO, Pages: 6 IO: 4 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0x6E0 10 Pager SVP(3) Start Write Converter 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0x6E0 11 Pager SVP(3) Stop Converter IO, Page s: 5 IO: 5 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0x6E0 53071 SAVPOINT B20SVP_COMPLETED: 10354 2004-08-18 18:09:58 0xFDC ERR 53250 B*TREE BAD INDEX 54253 (ROOT) 2004-08-18 18:09:59 0xFDC ERR 51381 MIGRAT migrating failed with error -7 055 2004-08-18 18:09:59 0xFDC 37 Admin Kernel state: 'OFFLINE' reache d 2004-08-18 18:09:59 0xFDC 19620 DBSTATE Shutdown normal requested 2004-08-18 18:09:59 0xE94 19617 VOLUMEIO Single I/O attach, 'knltrace', UKT:1 2004-08-18 18:09:59 0x6C8 19684 TASKING Tracewriter termination timeou t: 1200 sec 2004-08-18 18:09:59 0xE94 19619 TASKING Releasing tracewriter 2004-08-18 18:09:59 0x6C8 19600 VERSION 'Kernel 7.5.0 Build 015- 123-074-675' 2004-08-18 18:09:59 0x6C8 19654 DBSTATE SERVERDB 'SF' has stopped -------------------------------------------- current write position ------------ ---- =========================================== end of write cycle =============== ==== ... end of knldiag MaxDB instance update exited abnormally at We, Aug 18, 2004 at 18:10:00 ...
