You might be right after all, with a DB on the W2K server loop connection running both on localhost and from the XP box, the XP box errors out around the same number of connects as before but the connects on the W2K server keep going, I guess we are hitting a limit but it doesn't seem to be that new limit, looks like an open socket/port limitor or something? netstat|wc -l reaches about 2200-2400 when connections start being blocked.

Now one curious thing that I hope someone can explain is that running the loop test on a linux system connecting to the XP box never had this problem, somehow it was closing connections fully? Yet W2K connecting to XP had the same error?
