We currently use SAPDB 7.3 in production (on Windows) for some employee
databases that import and combine data from other systems, and then
produce reports and export files. The volume of data is not so large, but
the number of transactions can be. Moreover, it is important that it run
continuously without baby-sitting. There are Delphi front-ends to these
databases.

Minor issues we have had:
a.) Sometimes the import scripts were a pain to make. Luckily this has to
be done only once per file.
b.) Sometimes DB doesn't restart on reboot.
c.) Sometimes Auto-log is reset to off on reboot. When the log fills and
clients freeze, I find out about it and have to turn auto-log back on.
d.) There are some bugs where doing outer joins (for example) can fail
unreasonably, but where doing it by subqueries works.
e.) It seems not easy to move a database by backup and import, like in
MS-SQL-server. You have to worry too much about DB version, log files,
etc.

Some good things:
a.) It usually needs no care and feeding. (Turning on auto-log
occasionally isn't very hard).
b.) It runs queries quite quickly.
c.) Because SAPDB 7.3 was free, there was no approval process needed at my
company.
d.) Everybody (other programmers, outside consultants) is impressed by
WebSQL.

The sad thing is that I doubt we will ever move to MaxDB because as soon
as we have to spend money (even if it's a penny), then there has to be a
huge process, and if we have site licenses for Oracle or MS-SQL server,
then we won't get it approved. The license change was very disappointing
to us.

I also use SAPDB 7.4 and the 7.5 clients for temporary and development
work, (Putting data into to run queries, etc.) often-times using MS access
as a front-end for importing files, and then developing/running queries in
SQL-Studio.

More questions? Ask.

Thank you,
