Hi, a proper init.d script would do: - on shutdown it saves the state of _all_ running database kernels and would stop them - on startup it restores the state it previously saved
Of course, the x_server would be started and stopped too, perhaps by another init.d-script. At present, i see no chance to write such an init.d-script. AFAIK it is still not possible for the user root to stop/start databases without knowing their manager-password. I remember that this was planned and there was a discussion which user should get which priviledge - but of course root is typically allowed to do everything. Is it still correct, that root isn't allowed to start/stop instances? Thanks Sven
