AFAIK MAXCPU should not extend the number of physical CPUs in the system. We did this sort of tests some time ago and had the same results. The problem with MAXCPU > Number of physical CPUs is, that there will probably be two UKTs running on the same CPU in state "runnable" but since not UKT is getting time the system will "lock up".
