Hi Kevin, to use SAP NW04 as a developer, you should install the SAP developer studio. As far as I know, there is an option, to install a local J2EE engine. (For the sneak preview it is definitely the case). Part of this installation is a maxdb.
I would not install a 2nd version of the MaxDB on the same computer. I tried once to install the Dev stack on a laptop, where maxDB was already installed, and it didn't work. But it makes sense, to install the SQLStudio and the Database Manager.
