I suggest turning on the DB Analizer Trace and then inspect the
generated log, it will contain several warnings about what's not
working well with your current configuration.

There are also some new parameters that affect JOIN performance, you
may want to check their values to see if their defaults are appropiate
for your case, but I would recommend this AFTER using the analyzer.
