Randy,

Due to different endian types and the backups beeing just being sets of binary
pages, the backups are not compatible between Windows (little Endian) and Unix
(HP-UX, SUN-Solaris, IBM-AIX are big endian). You would have to use the loader
tool, because it offers various formats and takes care of the source and target
architecture.

Best
Jörg

Subject: DBMgui backup files portable between platforms?

Hello,

I'd like to migrate my SAPDB 7.3 database from Win2K to unix. I would
install the software on the target machine, then try to restore a backup
from the source. Looking through the archives, I have not found any
reference to a similar effort. Are the backup files portable between
windows and unix?

Thanks for any help or insight that you can offer,

Randy Sheehan
