For what I have learnt so far, this is because of the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL set in pre-7.6 MaxDB versions that doesn't seem to work anymore with recent Linux distributions. For what I know, you might want to (a) try downgrading your kernel to 2.6.15 (that's the latest kernel revision I've seen MaxDB working with, so far, atop Ubuntu 6.06 or (b) try running MaxDB kernel 7.6 which should run without LD_ASSUME_KERNEL well. I'm not yet through with this so you might want to read the archive of this list to read what happened so far...
