It is not possible at the moment to upload directly to the cabinet. There is an open issue to add a step to the wizard to specify the final location for a document (https://gitlab.com/mayan-edms/mayan-edms/issues/298). Would this work as an alternative?
Also, you could try setting up an index. They are like cabinets, but organize documents automatically.
