The menu now appears immediately, indeed. However, switching between a e.g.
'surface' node and its parent takes a while. This is totally acceptable but
maybe the panels could just be hidden instead of created over and over again (if
this really happens).

The color/scalar bar thing is still there. Try that:
open vtk->delaunay 2d->warp scalar->surface
In the scalar lut manager reduce the number of colors to 10, in the surface
control panel chekc 'interpolate scalaers before mapping'
Open a new vtk file, cut and paste the whole visualisation tree to the new vtk
file and you'll see e.g. that the border between two colors are not any more
iso-scalaer-value lines and the taotal range of the colors is not adjusted to
the new z-range (see attachment).
