Isn't it possible to associate different variables within the same vtk file to the different steps? Something like
POINT_DATA xxx SCALARS temp1 xxxx ..... SCALARS temp2 xxxx ..... SCALARS temp3 xxxx ..... .... Vectors disp1 xxx .... etc Wouldn't it be enough to have mayavi loop over temp%d and disp%d at the same time? It becomes tricky when there are many fields being used, but there may be some kind of substitution which implies, for example, that all fields that end in _number will be iterated.
