Prabhu, I think you are right. I have created a DOS version using the 'unix2dos' tool, and subsequently mayavi will not read this on linux. I have placed this 'dos-version' of the file here: http://www.soton.ac.uk/~fangohr/tmp/cantedvortex_dos.mv Paul, Could you download this, see wether it works, and let us know, please?
