The 'pipeline' is living in a different namespace than the interactive namespace. Do you still have a Mayavi figure lying around? If so what happens if you close it. If that solves the problem, you can inspect the pipeline by clicking on the 'Mayavi' icon in the figure. I suspect that you still have objects in there. I seem to remember that you did try to use 'mlab.clf()' to clean this up, though.
