It isn't a template problem - it's a case of wanting to an action against no particular table, which doesn't fit as nicely as it could within Maypole. It's not strange - it's fairly simple once you understand Maypole. Catalyst is a good project and it's pretty well documented and supported but isn't a silver bullet, nor does it have the same goals or ideas as maypole. It's different, I certainly wouldn't say it was better, but then I haven't recently had a project I could do quicker in Catalyst than Maypole. But horses for courses, if you think you could solve your problems quicker by using something else, give it a go.
