Thanks for the replies. The client has got back to me in the mean time to say 
that their system is doing odd things. Running really slow and beach-balling 
when doing simple things in the finder.

As their font problem was intermittent, and they have also seen the problem 
with Helvetica, I'll let them sort their system out first.
