In Cocoa you can use an MAAttachedWindowMBS and put a NSTextViewMBS on it.

Well, in MAAttachedWindow test example you need to keep a reference to the 
NSTextFieldMBS in a property, so you can later query stringValue on it.
To dismiss, you can simply run similar code like in the close button of the 
example.
