Actually, that's what the current version of the application does now if it can't find a poster frame—it reverts to QuickLook. Since it looks like I'm beating a dead horse, I will probably just default to QuickLook for everything now. Who knows? That may be the reason why Apple doesn't provide a new API for this. Their solution is simply to use QuickLook.
