Coined by the orginal creator of MbUnit, Peli De'Halleux, MbUnit means Model Based Unit testing. Some parts of the orginal MbUnit were for model based testing but around the time the code was opensourced this area was removed but the name remained. Peli had named MbUnit, GUnit (as can be found in early articles that Peli wrote) or Generative Unit testing but this name was already in use.
