Hello List,
This is my first post, forgive me if this topic has been covered.

As a hobbyist, I enjoy using Midnight Commander on RedHat Linux and
FreeBSD.
I re-install often, to learn and try different things, and think nothing
of it.

Before I re-install, I save several "seed" files to the second HDD on my
computers, in order to restore known good configurations.
One of the things I would like to do is save my ~/.mc/ini file after I
have customized MC, and restore it after re-installing my operating
system.

This seems to be a little problematic, however.
After re-install completes, I open MC, change (any) setting, and select
"Save Setup" to create the ~/.mc/ini file.
Then I copy the saved copy over the new file.
This isn't working at all for me, my customized settings are not being
restored, I must re-customize every time.

I've read the section of the man page that discusses the ini file, but
it doesn't seem to address my problem directly.
Am I doing something wrong, is there a proper way to do this, or have I
missed something?

Thanks,
Charles
