Open class for one unit of upper division credit. MCB 190 (1-unit) Proseminar - taught by MCB graduate researcher Renee Deehan CCN: 58570 Fridays 3pm-5pm 2070 VLSB Mitotic Spindle Assembly, Aneuploidy and Cancer. Mitosis is the process by which a cell replicates its genome and partitions its genetic material equally between two daughter cells. Inaccuracies during this process lead to aneuploidy, a condition where a cell contains an inaccurate number of chromosomes. This may result in disastrous consequences for the organism, such as cancer. This class will seek to understand gene mutations and fundamental changes in cellular processes that contribute to defects in mitosis. In addition, the various theories that underlie the causes of cancer will be addressed.
